We build software and hardware around the way your business works.

Alda builds bespoke software and connected hardware for businesses in Ireland. We spend time on site understanding the problem before building anything, and we look after what we build.

What we do

Software, hardware, and the bit in between.

Most of the work starts with a process that runs on memory, paper or a shared drive, and ends with something purpose-built that does the job instead.

Software

Bespoke applications

Web applications and internal tools built around one business and the way it actually runs. Logging, traceability and accountability, so a decision made on Tuesday is still findable on Friday.

Hardware

Connected devices

Equipment that sits where the work happens and does something physical, such as printing a tag at a machine. It talks to the software over your network and keeps working when the connection drops.

Afterwards

We keep it running

We built it, so we look after it. Updates reach you without anyone visiting, and we watch the systems we deploy so a fault is something we find rather than something you report.

Work

A shift handover system for TEG.

TEG is a precision engineering company in the Irish midlands. What the next person needed to know about a part was travelling between shifts by word of mouth and on scraps of paper, and some of it was not arriving.

We built an application the operators use from a phone on the floor. They pick their name, pick what the handover is about and add a note, typed or dictated. A tag prints at the machine within seconds and goes with the part. The same note is kept digitally, so the context is still there when someone comes looking for it weeks later.

It ran as a pilot in one production area, where close to 200 handovers were recorded in just over a month. A separate cost analysis estimated potential annual savings of over €20,000 if the same approach were deployed across three production areas. That is a projection from the analysis rather than savings recorded during the pilot.

The application is one implementation of Relay, the infrastructure we build for connecting physical context with digital records.

Thanks to TEG for the opportunity to run it in a working manufacturing environment, and to the operators who used it and told us what was wrong with it.

How we work

How a job runs.

The same sequence every time, whether the job is a web application or a box bolted to a wall.

01 · Understand

We come and look first.

Time on site, watching how the work actually moves between people. That is usually different from how the process is described in a meeting, and the difference is where the problem tends to be.

02 · Design

Agreed before anything is built.

You see the design and we agree it before code is written. Then the build is cut into pieces that are each finished and useful on their own, so you can see progress without waiting for the whole thing.

03 · Run

It stays our responsibility.

Changes are tested before they reach you and arrive without anyone having to install anything. Your data stays yours and it is backed up.

We are reachable during business hours, with extended and direct access to your engineer for customers running a live system.

Team

Who builds it.

Alda is run by Eric, a multi-discipline engineer with over eleven years in manufacturing engineering environments and professional and academic training in both toolmaking and software engineering.
